Welcome to Jack Brandt Studio
Cerebral Palsy might slow another person down but Jack has plenty of energy, talent and ambition. At first glance, one may not see more than colorful blurs -- but look closer and you´ll see a very complex piece of art.
Choose any image for superb detail. Stand back a bit and squint. In some paintings you can see a face or body image. Jack´s artwork also shows the same strong belief and conviction that can be seen in the disability community, as he strives for his creations to be socially motivating.
In June 2004 Jack presented a highly publicized exhibit for the St. Louis "Society for Disability Studies." In his presentation, Jack included some of the artists from Disabled Artists Network. Since this presentation Jack has continued to exhibit his growing body of work.
As his artwork has flourished over the years since exhibiting his work, so has his community activism. At James Madison University, Jack was recognized for his academic achievements and studied the impact of disability legislation on the formation of advocacy groups. As an American Association for People with Disabilities´ Congressional Intern, Jack analyzed new federal regulations that affect people with disabilities. And in recent years Jack, who also graduated from Partners in Policy Making, has petitioned the state and federal legislatures to expand community supports and opportunities for people with disabilities.
For these efforts Jack was selected as the recipient of the 2006 Jackie Crews Award. The Jackie Crews Award recognizes self-advocates who excel in leadership.
Be sure to visit Jack Brandt Studios often for details Jack´s latest work, advocacy efforts, and other happenings. And to visit his most recent body of work that is currently on display, in conjunction with the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities, please visit the Jackie Crews Award Gallery.
